Hello there, my name is Bogi.

My story with ceramics goes all the way back to my early childhood. I was around six years old when my mum brought me to a workshop. Since that, I honestly never stopped working with clay.

For a long time, I was making pottery as a hobby. This changed when I started studying architecture. The connection between interior spaces and objects started to interest me. I combined my profession as an architect and my hobby as a ceramist. I started making lampshades from clay.

At that time I fall in love with conceptual thinking and the search for functionality. For me, beauty is in simple shapes and genuine materials. This is what I explore in my design work.

For the lamps, I started experimenting with different shapes. But from the start, I also wanted to work on a special material: the mixture of clay and paper. The lampshades have to be lighter than normal clay. So I can hang them on the ceiling without any special suspension. And at the same time, by keeping the material durable I can make everyday objects.

Mixing clay and paper is the perfect combination. The fibers of the mashed paper hold the clay together until it is dry. In this way, the wall of the lampshades can be thin. During firing, the paper disappears and leaves behind a light and porose material. And thanks to the high firing temperature, it is hard like a rock.

And as a cherry on top, I admire how this mixture makes a random surface. Sometimes it is smooth, sometimes it leaves holes and cracks. As it was alive. It was a challenge to find the perfect ratio of this mixture and soon it became my obsession. After almost a decade of experimenting, I understand and love working with paper-clay.

The shapes and the material come together, and the final touch is in the details. It was a long process to figure out the best connection for the porcelain fittings and the textile cables. As a piece of jewelry on the top, each lamp comes with a brass cable clamp. And for the ceiling rose and bracket, I choose the warm touch of wood.

Furthermore, I believe that there is a solution to any suggestion. So if you can`t find what you are looking for please don't hesitate to contact me. I would love to hear your ideas.
